A PATH OF GROWTH.
I distinctly recall my early days of practice, when yoga studios were almost non-existent in Panama, as were vegan and vegetarian restaurants. The concept of practicing yoga here was both innovative and nearly weird. In 2016, with great enthusiasm, I began taking private lessons with a teacher from Portugal and participating in group classes wherever they were available. Much of my journey in yoga has been shaped by various international teachers. I have consistently seized the opportunity to attend workshops and sessions with highly skilled instructors around the world, where yoga is more established, and I continue to do so.
As the years went by, I began to notice a change. The word "yoga" started to gain popularity, accompanied by a growing curiosity among Panamanians. I witnessed the practice being introduced across various settings, from gyms to community spaces. It was exciting to see people beginning to embrace this practice, which, though once unfamiliar, was proving to have a profound positive impact on their well-being.
As one of the pioneers of yoga in Panama, I am deeply proud to have been part of this transformation. From those early days to the present, I have dedicated the past 10 years of my life to promoting yoga and building a community that celebrates health, well-being, and connection. Seeing how yoga has grown and diversified fills me with gratitude and satisfaction, and it inspires me to continue contributing to the well-being of our community.
After 14 years of practice, I am confident that yoga extends beyond physical postures. It opens the door to creating genuine connections between individuals who share a common purpose. In a world where personal relationships often get lost in daily routines, yoga offers a unique opportunity to build a strong and meaningful community. Today, I want to share how we can continue weaving this same network of unity.
The Power of Yoga to Unite People
Yoga is a physical and mental discipline that originated in India. The word "Yoga" comes from the Sanskrit root “yuj” – योग, which means union. Reflecting its meaning, we can say that yoga represents the connection of body and mind. In practice, people find themselves in a space of openness and mutual support. In classes, participants not only work on their physical and mental well-being but also become part of a community that shares similar values and goals.
Support Circles: Joining a yoga practice provides emotional support and motivation. Sharing challenges and achievements creates a sense of solidarity and understanding.
Responsibility and Motivation: Being part of a group often enhances personal responsibility and motivation, as members feel more committed.
Expanding Social Networks: Group yoga practice offers the opportunity to meet people with similar interests, fostering new and genuine friendships.

Today, Panama city has made significant progress, and the yoga landscape has been enriched by the arrival of studios and teachers from around the world. The yoga community in Panama is now vibrant and diverse, and I am proud to have been part of this growth. As I evolved from being a student to continuing the legacy of yoga and its philosophy, I founded Mi Asana Yoga in 2020. Since then, we have been bringing together bodies and minds across the country through our wellness events.
