Yoga offers a variety of styles, each with its own unique benefits and approaches. My personal journey has been deeply influenced by Ashtanga Yoga, a method known for its rigorous structure and transformative potential. Recently, I realized a long-held dream by practicing at the esteemed Sharat Yoga Centre in Mysore, a hub where the traditional lineage of Ashtanga Yoga is preserved and celebrated.
Although I practice Ashtanga daily and Im deeply committed to it, I also teach other yoga styles that I have studied extensively and proven to be effective. This includes Vinyasa Yoga, known for its dynamic flow and creative transitions, and Hatha Yoga, which focuses on restorative postures and breath control. By teaching these styles, I aim to provide a range of practices to accommodate the diverse needs and preferences of my students.
My approach is to teach only what I know and have experienced, ensuring that each student can find a practice that resonates with their individual goals and well-being.
ASHTANGA
Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional practice that follows a set series of postures, performed in a specific sequence at a certain pace. The Trishtana method emphasizes the importance of breath and movement synchronization (called Vinyasa), the Drishti (or gazing points) and Bandhas (body locks), challenging practitioners to maintain focus and consistency. The practice includes six series of poses, each increasing in complexity and intensity.
The repetitive nature of Ashtanga’s sequences helps practitioners refine their alignment and postural awareness over time. The regular practice allows for gradual improvement and adjustment. This styles suits who appreciate a sacred approach to their practice. Beginners are encouraged to start with foundational classes to build a strong understanding of the method and gradually progress to more advanced sequences as they gain calmness.
VINYASA
Vinyasa Yoga, while similar to Ashtanga in its fluid movement, allows for more creativity and variability. It is characterized by the smooth transition between postures, synchronized with breath, creating a rhythmic flow. The practice often includes vigorous movements and challenging postures designed to build strength, improve flexibility, and increase overall stamina.
Is ideal for those seeking a high-energy workout that will elevate their heart rate and provide a good sweat. If you enjoy variety and dynamic movement, this style will help you enhance your physical fitness and mental clarity.
HATHA
Hatha Yoga offers a gentler, more restorative practice compared to the other styles. It focuses on holding postures for longer periods, with an emphasis on alignment and breath control. Hatha is excellent for beginners or anyone seeking to cultivate flexibility and relaxation. It provides a balanced approach that encourages mindfulness and stress relief.
